Meet Our Staff

Irene Godwin

Irene was hired in 1990 to replace Bryan Mulcahy, the then-genealogist, who moved to a new location and a new library. She had been visiting the genealogy library for years before she was hired; since 1972 actually, when she’d visit to do her personal family history research.  When Mulcahy was ready to relocate, he suggested Irene apply for his position as genealogist, and she did.

Her first duties were to order books, catalogue them, and keep up with correspondence.  And although she had taken classes in genealogy through her church, she said her first interest really came as a young child when she’d rather listen to the stories told by adults than play with the other kids.

To Irene, the genealogy books are her old friends.  She says the best part of her job is helping patrons with information on their relatives and watching their excitement when they make a hard-earned find.  She has been happy, also, to watch the Odom Library grow and be a part of that growth.

Ann Glass

Ann serves as the genealogy clerk, where most people see her, and as the bookkeeper, a job she took on in 2006. She actually started with MCCLS on May 12, 1990, making her an employee for 17-1/2 years. Ann is the current chairman of the Catherine M Bryant Veteran's History Project. She was named the Moultrie-Colquitt County Employee of the Month, January 2008.

Fellow employees say Ann has a love of all people, is very mindful of them, and always goes the extra mile to help them. We know her as a person who loves to laugh and always has a twinkle in her eye. Like many employees at the library, Ann is fond of reading and family genealogy. But it might surprise some people to know that she also likes photography, arts and crafts, and traveling. Of course, lots of people know about her love for her children and grandchildren.

Catherine M. Bryant 1921-2007

Catherine, our Genealogy and Administrative Assistant, had been employed with the library for 41 years. Catherine was named the Moultrie-Colquitt County Library System's Employee of the Month September 2007.

Beginning as a Bookmobile Librarian, she later was placed in charge of the library's film service, the audio-visual equipment and its repair, and the Intra-Library Loan service. She also has been secretary to the library board for more than 30 years. However, Catherine's greatest library love has been the Veterans History Project, which was named in her honor earlier this year. Since it was her desire that Veterans be honored and never forgotten, the Veterans Project was housed in the genealogy library. Catherine has worked hard for many years to raise money to support the project and acquire information on as many Veterans as she can add to the collection. One co-worker said: "Mrs. Bryant lays a foundation to help future generations develop a deeper understanding of peace."
