The Children’s Library is here today because of past library director, Anna Schinkel. Before 1976 there was simply a children’s area in a corner of the main library. Ms. Schinkel worked very hard to raise money to build a special room for younger readers. That room is now part of the Genealogy Library and the new larger room is at the north end of the building. Library Director, Melody Jenkins, was our first professional. Mrs. Norma McKellar was the children's librarian until July, 2011. Children’s Librarian. Michele Croft now heads the department.

The Children’s Library has thousands of books including picture and easy books, fiction, mysteries and fantasy, many of the newest series, nonfiction and biographies. We also have several excellent children’s magazines available for check out. While at the library children can enjoy color pages and puzzles.

Throughout the year there are various programs and story times provided by the Children’s Library. During the school year there are three Pre-K programs held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. We always plan a special party for Dr. Seuss around March 3rd. June is our month for Summer Reading Fun with special storytimes provided by professional storytellers, musicians, artists and puppeteers. Always check to see what’s happening in our exciting area!
